So there are a billion different topics to talk about right now.
But I thought that many people do not understand the healthcare issue
very well. And specifically why costs have been increasing and how this
relates to Obamacare.
To begin, I have gained knowledge on this topic by discussing this issue with the local home health care agency director.
A basic principle that is a necessity to understand is that at the end of life there are huge healthcare expenses (the last year of life has an average of over 25% of total healthcare expenses).
The problem described to me is that doctors specifically don't know how to talk about impending death with patients.
Instead they choose to tell the patient that there is some experimental or "final" procedure which is unlikely to succeed (mostly only having a success probability in the low single digit percentages). And once they begin this procedure it usually makes the patient have worse living conditions (they usually respond poorly to drugs or treatment and are not living happy final days because they are bedridden or uncomfortable).
So now let us consider the issue with government healthcare. The next issue that was described to me was the fact that the government refuses to pay all of the costs for those on medicare or medicaid. So here is what happens. Let's say the cost of the procedure is $10.
The government tells the hospital they will only pay $7. Well there is still $3 in cost that needs to be covered. So where does that money come from you ask? The rest of us.
This is why healthcare costs have been going up. In order to make up the costs that the government will not pay, they charge those of us with health insurance much more to make up for the loss they took with the government. So not only are you paying for others healthcare through taxes, but you pay for it by paying more for your insurance and hospital bills when you go to the hospital.
Now let's just extrapolate a bit and try to see where this goes. As more people are put on the system and less of us are on private sector health insurance, the faster our bills go up to cover those that are on the government system. Eventually this will become unsustainable.
Once that point is reached, our Cadillac of health care goes down the drain because there simply won't be the money to cover us.
Both quality of health care and number of patients being seen by doctors will go down dramatically. At that point the complete destruction of health care will have occurred. So what have we done? We have enacted Obamacare. Wonderful. Because what was needed with this problem was exactly that. More government.
